See that bump on the side of my finger? Any guesses? It's the pin the doc put in my finger during surgery last summer after my unfortunate pool umbrella incident. The bump means the pin is trying to come out. (And yes, it's as gross, freaky, and painful as it sounds.)Luckily, it was an "easy fix" and could be done as an in-office surgery. A little anesthetic to numb my finger, a tiny incision, a quick grab with some surgical pliers, and it was done. 15 minutes tops. Two stitches later, I was on my way.
I've had to start my exercises again to get the stiffness back out, but it's just nice to have my right hand functioning again.
The doc says the remaining plate and screws can stay in forever and shouldn't cause me any problems. Hmmm... Given my luck, I'm not sure I share his confidence. Let's go with cautiously optimistic... =)

And to think it all started from a crazy umbrella that gave you an opportunity to see my work in action!
Man oh man. So glad you got it out with minimal trauma! I was expecting so much worse as I read!
Oh my goodness, Karen!! I'm so glad it was "easily fixed." :) I hope it doesn't cause you any more problems, too.
Ok...is it wrong that I was so hoping that it wasn't going to interfere with Spring Break? Yea that it was a fast fix and all is well.
Was that pin supposed to come out or was it supposed to stay put with the other ones?
Wow! The fun never ends at your house! Glad it wasn't anything too serious!
That's one of the best pictures ever! Sorry about the pain though. That doesn't sound fun, but at least it was an easy fix.....for now!
That was just a reminder for you NEVER to go near a big umbrella again =) And here's hoping your doc is right!
I read the title of the blog and thought - who broke a bone this time! Glad to hear it wasn't too too serious!
YIKES! This photo makes me cringe!
